Jazmine Highsmith was born and raised in Miami, FL. Surprisingly, her early development didn't include sports. At the age of 3 her mother enrolled her in ballet, tap and jazz and from the age of 3 to the age of 13 Jazmine was a dancer in addition to this she cheered for the neighborhood optimist team and her middle school. In 2002 at the age of 14 Jazmine entered the 9th grade at 5ft 10inches tall, her height alone intrigued coaches.
One coach in particular Ms. Carmen Jackson took interest in Jazmine and demanded that she come to track practice and learn how to throw the shot-put. Jazmine at the time had no intentions of joining any sports teams her 1st year of high school but Ms. Carmen insisted and even called her home to speak with her mother and well the rest is history. Under the direction of Carmen Jackson and coached by Richard Louis at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. Jazmine became one of Florida's top throwers. She was a 3 time state qualifier in the discus throw (2003, 2004, & 2005) shot-put qualifier (2005), state finalist in the shot-put (2005), Bob Hayes Shot-Put Champion (2005) and an All-Miami Dade county athlete Second-Team, & Honorable Mention). In 2005 Jazmine was apart of the team that captured the 2005 4A State Track & Field Championship. Jazmine graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School in 2005 as an honor graduate.
Jazmine continued her track & field career at the University of South Florida where she was a 4 year track & field scholarship recipient. Under the direction of Warren Bye and Coached by Toby Colyer Jazmine excelled in the classroom and in the circle as a member of the USF Track & Field team. While at USF Jazmine was a 4x Big East Outdoor Championship Qualifier (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) 3x Big East Indoor Championship Qualifier (2007, 2008, 2009), Big East Scholar Athlete, All-Big East Indoor & Outdoor Athlete (2009) and USF Women's Track & Field Most Improved Athlete in 2009. She also etched her name in school history, she is currently on the top 10 indoor performances in school history in the shot-put(#7), and weight throw (#3), top 10 outdoor performances in school history in the hammer throw(#8) and shot-put (#9). Jazmine graduated from USF with a Bachelors or Arts in Interdisciplinary Social Science in 2009.
Upon Graduating from USF Jazmine went on the receive her MBA in Sports Mangement from Saint Leo University. She currently resides in Houston, TX where she works in human resources for a non-profit organization and she is also a PhD Candidate (ABD) at Northcentral University and is currently working on her dissertation.
